Introducing your Vicar - The Journey to Priesthood

Hello my name is Father Edward, and I am thrilled to welcome you to our new website. I hope that you will find an answer to any question you might have on here, but please don't hesitate to get in touch with us as we would love to welcome you to Church one day.

I was born in South Africa, and moved to Wales when I was 16. Wales truly was the 'land of my fathers' as my family have lived in Wales for many generations. I knew from the age of 14 that I wanted to be a priest. I had grown up going to Church in South Africa, and it was wonderful to see Christians working for peace and reconciliation in a deeply divided country. After finishing school I studied Theology at St David's University College in Lampeter, Wales. I made some wonderful friends here, who encouraged me in my vocation. I then decided to spend a year on placement in Milton Keynes developing pastoral and liturgical skills and then in February 2013 I was selected to train for the Sacred Priesthood at the College of St Michael and All Angels in Llandaff, Cardiff.

I spent a very happy 3 years at Cardiff University, as I met my wife Jenna who was also studying in Cardiff. Through our shared love for Ballroom Dancing, we developed a wonderful friendship. I was made a Deacon by the Bishop of St David's, The Right Reverend Wyn Evans in 2016, and then ordained a Priest by the Archbishop of Wales, The Most Reverend John Davies in 2017. Jenna and I were married in March 2018, and after much determination and perseverance Jenna was offered a place to study Medicine at the University of Warwick in 2021. We moved into the Vicarage in September 2021, and we are feeling very much at home in Coventry.

I am deeply honoured and privileged to be the Parish Priest in this wonderful Church. We have been working very hard to make sure that everyone is welcome, and that everyone is wanted in our Church family. St Mary Magdalen Church is a safe place for you to deepen your faith, and to encounter the Risen Christ through our liturgy and worship. No matter who you are, we want you to know that you are loved more than you can possibly know, because we believe in God who is love and life itself, uniquely revealed in the person of Jesus Christ.

The Christian Faith is for everyone, and St Mary Magdalen Church is for you. Come and see us, you'd be most welcome.

May God bless you and keep you.

Fr Edward
